Recollection: A memory loss awareness project

For this project, our team drew inspiration from Jane McGonigal’s game Superbetter. Her idea of creating a community of people to help one get
through hardships inspired our idea to have each card be apart of a larger whole. Through research and personal experiences, we knew that dealing with an individual who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, memory loss or dementia takes a toll on all involved. That allowing people to feel like they are not alone was important to the success of this project. Each card has a different design on the front, that when placed together, creates a larger image. In addition, because each design would be different than the next, we gave each individual card it’s own unique butterfly. Our inspiration for the design of the cards was Hallmark. We took note of what type choices, colors and language were used specifically in their sympathy cards. We noticed that their use of a calming color palette, elegant yet accessible type and words that evoked emotion were the key to it’s success.
